Natural Pacific Driftwood for Aquariums

Create a stunning, natural aquascape with BK's Paws Pacific Driftwood. Every piece is hand-selected and completely unique, making it the perfect centerpiece for freshwater aquariums, shrimp tanks, planted aquariums, terrariums, paludariums, and vivariums.

Pacific Driftwood has a beautiful appearance that combines the rich textures of Malaysian Driftwood with the intricate branching of Mopani-style wood, creating a dramatic natural look in any aquarium.

Beyond its beauty, driftwood serves an important role in your aquarium by providing shelter, grazing surfaces for biofilm, and the gradual release of beneficial tannins that help recreate the natural habitats of many freshwater fish and shrimp.

Preparing Your Driftwood

For the best results before placing your driftwood in an aquarium:

  1. Rinse thoroughly to remove loose debris.
  2. Boil for 30–60 minutes to help sanitize the wood and speed up sinking.
  3. Soak in clean water until fully waterlogged.
  4. Add to your aquarium.

Some pieces may release natural tannins during the first few weeks. These tannins are harmless and are often beneficial for shrimp and many soft-water fish species. If you prefer clearer water, additional soaking or activated carbon can help reduce tannins.

Why Shrimp Keepers Love Driftwood

Natural driftwood provides far more than decoration.

Its textured surface quickly becomes covered in beneficial bacteria and biofilm, creating a constant natural food source that shrimp love to graze on throughout the day. The branches and crevices also provide shelter for newly hatched shrimplets and reduce stress by offering natural hiding places.
